SUMMARY:

The Controlling Chemsex Care Co-ordinator will play a key role in ensuring that all our clients receive the highest standards of care and support from when they contact us until they are discharged. You will be responsible for consulting with clients and determining their needs, developing care plans, coordinating our different services, and working with the team to evaluate interventions. You will mentor and supervise the team to ensure quality standards are maintained and that care is delivered in a timely way in line with client’s individual needs and wishes.


PRINCIPLE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and take care of the email account: [email protected] and welcome clients to our organisation.
  • Respond to enquiries in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Taking care of assessments of new clients, in order to understand their situation and their needs, to identify the best support them.
  • Assigning care workers to service users in line with the standards, processes and requirements of the organisation.
  • Demonstrate a flexible attitude and be prepared to carry out other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time within the general character of the post or the level of responsibility of the role, ensuring that work is delivered in a timely and effective manner.
  • Special attention to the delivery of chemsex support to clients, depending on your capacity and availability.
  • Taking care of supporting clients who are affected by the chems use of a loved one.
  • Signposting clients to other services when we can’t provide specific support.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of health and care infrastructures and know how and when to enable people to access support and services that are right for them.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to develop services.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Knowledge of the LGBTQ+ health sector and an understanding of the multi-stranded needs of LGBTQ+ people.
  • Deep understanding and knowledge about the chemsex phenomenon, including harm reduction, relapse prevention, working with crisis and safeguarding issues.
  • Experience in engaging with and providing interventions to support the substance misuse and sexual health needs of people, especially GBMSM and in relation to chemsex.
  • Experience of working with chems users with complex needs in one to one settings.
  • An understanding of the wider substance misuse sector and service users’ drug, alcohol, and sexual health needs.
  • Self-motivated with a flexible approach to the role.
  • Accomplished written and verbal communication and listening skills. Good all-round administration skills, especially MS Office and using databases for client record management.
  • A commitment to the values of Controlling Chemsex including (but not limited to) LGBTQ+ rights, anti-racism and trans inclusion, plus an understanding of our organisational aspirations.
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to work on own initiative, prioritising accordingly.
  • Excellent team working and interpersonal skills, maintaining a highly cooperative approach to supporting colleagues in delivering service objectives.
  • Ability to work with your team to explore new opportunities and referral pathways, to connect with people who have a treatment need but have previously been unable to access the service.

 

DESIRABLE:

  • Counselling or psychotherapy qualification.
  • Personal experience with getting over chemsex issues.
  • Good working knowledge of mental health and sexual health.
