Employment Type: Volunteer

The Alphabet Collective (AC) are looking to recruit a Treasurer to join our board of trustees in a voluntary capacity.

The Alphabet Collective (AC) is a Queer-led community group that aims to provide a welcoming and affirming environment for intersectional LGBTQIA+ communities. The space is open to any individuals in Leeds and the surrounding area aged 18-25 who identify as LGBTQIA+, including those who may be questioning their sexuality and/or gender identity. The AC delivers weekly groups and 1:1 sessions with service users.

We help people reach their potential, by supporting them at the earliest possible stage and increasing the amount of experiences for young people to feel accepted, and to assist in developing their skills and confidence. We bring together those at risk of isolation, estrangement and lacking a sense of community, to have fun, and explore identities, histories, and lived experiences, in a collaborative, compassionate and dynamic approach to supporting LGBTQIA+ communities.

We are looking to hire a treasurer, who will join our trustees with the following key responsibilities:

  • Engage with the Trustees, Founders, staff members and volunteers using excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be responsible for managing the financial accounts, approving internal / external invoices, expenses and payments in a timely manner.
  • Provide annual accounts and financial forecasts for the organisation and in line with funding requirements.
  • Work closely with the Board of Trustees to support with grant applications and wider organisational decisions regarding The Alphabet Collective.
  • Attend monthly trustee meetings, primarily online on Thursday evenings.
  • Attend an Annual General Meeting (AGM).
  • Be willing to vote on decisions during meetings.

Person specification:

Essential

  • Have experience in treasurer roles, accountancy or managing accounts for similar or larger sized organisations.
  • Have an interest in the work of the Alphabet Collective, and willingness to engage with the Board of Trustees and staff members to support the mission, objectives and values of The Alphabet Collective.
  • A team player with good communication, a high level of integrity and organisational skills.

Desired

  • A willingness to be involved in the wider activities of the Alphabet Collective, such as policy writing, grant applications, event planning and outreach work.
  • An interest in joining the trustees and staff members in co-working sessions (monthly Thursday evenings) to work on tasks related to the Alphabet Collective.
  • Experience working with, or understanding the needs of, young LGBTQIA+ people.
  • A willingness to join occasional events with the members of The AC, to bridge the gap between service-users and the members of the Board, as well as occasional events to promote our work e.g. stalls, conferences.

We actively encourage applications from underrepresented groups and communities. We are particularly interested to hear from members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
