LGBT+ Futures: Equity Fund – Community Panels

Background

Working in partnership with a diverse range of community-led LGBT+ organisations, and funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, Consortium is facilitating the new LGBT+ Futures: Equity Fund. This will be £465K of grant funding available to LGBT+ organisations who are led by and for the following targeted community areas:

  • D/deaf and/or Disabled People
  • Lesbian, Bi and Trans+ Women
  • Older LGBT+ People
  • People of Colour or People from Black, Asian or other Minoritised Ethnicities
  • Trans and Non-Binary People

We know that funding for these targeted areas of our LGBT+ communities is disproportionately low and increased resource and support is needed. This funding will be part of a programme of activity for organisations working with these communities.

This programme has been designed in partnership with organisations already working across these targeted areas to create a participative funding process. We are committed to continuing in this way, ensuring those with lived experience of these areas are in the driving seat of the decision making.

The Community Panels

We are seeking to appoint 6-8 Community Panel Members per targeted area who will lead on providing feedback and prioritisation for applications received. This will mean a total of up to 40 Community Panel members being appointed.

The LGBT+ Futures: Equity Fund will be an open fund, meaning there will be no application deadlines and funds will be allocated based on applications received until the funding has run out. We anticipate there being approximately 3 to 4 rounds of applications for Community Panel Members to review over the next 12-18 months.

As part of the process, once Community Panels have discussed applications, they will choose 2 representatives for each application round who will meet with the other reps to make final decisions on which organisations to fund. Consortium will facilitate this Grants Panel and one of our Trustees will join the Community Panel Members. The Grants Panel will also be supported by Consortium’s Grants Team to provide advice and guidance.

It is our intention to make decisions on a rolling basis and to keep both the application and decision-making process as simple as possible. We don’t want to add any additional pressure to organisations, and we want to make Panel time as efficient as possible. The processes will be supported by our Grants Team who will provide everything the Community Panels need.

There will also be a programme of activity running alongside the funding, which will be available to both organisations awarded funds and organisations simply wanting to participate in this work. This will be led by Consortium’s new Equity Fund Project Officer.

Who are we looking for?

Our Community Panels will consist of 6-8 people for each of the 5 targeted areas. We are looking to bring in people with diverse lived experience across the areas so fair and equitable decisions can be made on which organisations to fund. Members and non members are welcome to apply.

Panel Members must be connected to a LGBT+ organisation working across one of the targeted areas and the organisation's work must be focused on this area - this might be as a volunteer, employee, service user (not exhaustive). Agreement from the organisation for your participation will be sought as part of the application process. Please note: Your application will not affect your organisation's eligibility to access funding.

We actively recognise the diversity and intersectionality of our communities. We are keen to hear from people from both broad geographical areas and those with a range of lived experiences of the targeted areas. We encourage people with enthusiasm and passion for equity to apply.

Applications will be considered by representatives from Consortium and our partner organisations, all of whom are working across one or more of these targeted areas.

Time commitment

Up to 1 day per month (approximately).

Please note: Time commitments might need to be condensed during assessment processes.

Remuneration

Panel Members must be connected to a LGBT+ organisation working across one of the targeted areas—this might be as a volunteer, employee, service user (not exhaustive). Agreement from the organisation for your participation will be sought as part of the application process.

The organisation you are linked to will receive £250 per day, or part thereof.

Individuals will need to arrange with the organisation any individual remuneration.
