  • Consortium is delighted to have awarded over £377,000 in total to LGBT+ organisations across the UK thanks to funds from the National Emergencies Trust
  • 61 LGBT+ organisations received funding to help them respond to the impact of Covid-19 and the increase in demand for LGBT+ services
  • Over £71,000 distributed in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales

Consortium, the UKs umbrella body for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender + organisations has announced a full list of the successful recipients from its latest grants programme, the LGBT+ Futures: National Emergencies Trust Fund.

61 LGBT+ organisations across the UK shared funding of £377,000 which has now been fully distributed.

Grants ranged from £257 to £13,510 to support the delivery of essential, innovative activities to support LGBT+ people’s health and wellbeing and to stay connected. Activities ranged from LGBT+ book clubs to support social connection and remote youth clubs, to emergency accommodation for homeless LGBT+ young people.

All grants will support LGBT+ organisations to address increased demands on their services as a result of the Covid-19 global pandemic, which has seen 40% of LGBT+ organisations reporting immediate losses in funds. The grants also supported innovative approaches to keeping our communities connected and reached diverse range of organisations. We’ve been pleased to award grants UK wide with over £71,000 distributed to organisations serving LGBT+ communities in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The funding awarded via the open grant giving programme was in addition to emergency grants totalling £200,000 to 8 LGBT+ Helplines across the UK.

Funding for the programme is thanks to money from the National Emergencies Trust’s Coronavirus Appeal Funds, who are investing in the LGBT+ sector in recognition of how under-represented the sector has been in Covid-19 related funding to date.

In addition to the £350,000 for onward granting from the National Emergencies Trust, a small amount of match funding was leveraged by Consortium through core funds repurposed for essential grants.

Paul Roberts OBE, Chief Executive at Consortium said: The Covid-19 pandemic has thrown up enormous challenges for the LGBT+ sector. A steep increase in demand coupled with the need to quickly pivot to maintain services in a remote or distanced manner, often requiring additional resources to deliver the same level of support, has meant many organisations are more stretched than ever before. It has been inspiring to see organisations across the UK rise to meet this challenge, developing innovative solutions to continue delivering their life saving services.”
