Trans Legal Project is a network of barristers, solicitors, post-graduate law students and legal researchers, giving their time free to provide a legal resource in support of the UK trans community. Our website contains articles and opinion written by legally qualified authors (plus occasional commentary by others), aimed at helping trans people and their legal advocates understand the law and to claim and protect their legal rights in the UK. The last few years have seen an intense effort by opponents to have the basic rights of trans people eroded, even destroyed. Some of these efforts have been founded in ignorance, others willfully fueled by baseless fears. Increasingly they are being initiated by cynical bad-faith actors who wish the trans community harm. Some of these, regrettably, even practice law.

Though trans and non-binary people do not yet have equality in British society, there are fair and clear protections built into UK law for these groups, founded on a number of pieces of landmark legislation and important legal cases. We believe that it is vital for trans people and the legal professionals who argue for trans rights to have a clear and comprehensive grasp of these protections.

Our website offers a developing analysis of relevant statutory and case law, commentary on the outcome of recent cases and guidance for those currently facing legal battles. We hope that it will become a valuable source of clear legal argument with which the UK trans community and its supporters can respond to legal assault.
