Proud To Be Trans In West Berkshire

logo 5

PTBTIWB is a local support and advice group for Transgender people or their families and friends in the West Berkshire area. We offer an active Facebook page as well as a blind email list to keep non FB members informed of social activities and other events – all members are encouraged to ask questions and to take part in discussions as there is bound to be someone who can offer advice. We hold a monthly meal at a local restaurant which is usually well attended as well as a monthly zoom call for those members unable to attend the meal as well as other events on a more ad hoc basis.

We are closely linked to Newbury Pride and I am also the co-vice chair of that organisation and a Regional Organiser for the Beaumont Society.

In addition to the normal advice and support aims I also believe that a visible presence in the community is essential in order to de-“other” trans people, however, the privacy of members is tantamount and the group itself remains a closed and private organisation. We have led both of the Newbury Pride marches last year and this and are involved with arranging several local events including a community brunch and drag bingo.

We also held a TDoR vigil this year and last and have been covered in the local press, we had visits from two local deputy mayors and a Catholic priest to this year’s event.
