Pride in Prison & Probation

PiPP logo

Pride in Prison & Probation (PiPP) is the LGBTI+ staff support network within Her Majesty’s Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS). It is a members led network which provides support for LGBTI+ staff and for all staff regarding LGBTI+ issues. In addition to providing confidential one-to-one support for staff, we also help to develop staffs understanding and awareness of minority sexual orientations, gender identities & expression to enable them to work respectfully and confidently with LGBTI+ service users. We are a critical friend to HMPPS identifying areas for improvement and working with the organisation to increase LGBTI+ inclusion in our workplaces. Our activity as network includes (but isn’t limited to):

  • Providing confidential support
  • Producing informative materials such as toolkits, information sheets, guides
  • Creating and delivering LGBTI+ awareness training
  • Celebration of LGBTI+ awareness dates
  • Sharing and encouraging best practice across all HMPPS workplaces
  • Inputting into organisational strategies
  • Policy review
  • Collaborative working with our disability & race networks and trade unions

The network is ran by a full-time national lead, supported by a team of voluntary area leads (given 4 days a month facility time for network duties) and local leads who are volunteers representing the network and undertaking network duties in their prison or probation cluster. Between us network representation covers all prison, probation, YCS and HQ workplaces in England & Wales.
