LGBT Dance Nation are a community group offering Ballroom and Latin American classes and events for the LGBT+ community and friends. We host a range of classes and social dance events offering people within local Welsh communities the opportunity to feel accepted, connected and united. The classes are led by a Masters degree level dancer and arts practitioner and we currently have around 30 members.

Ballroom and Latin American classes often cater towards married heterosexual couples, so our vision is to bring equality and diversity into a social dancing format. With the primary goal to provide LGBT+ people with positive social opportunities that promote health and well-being, our classes bring people together and combat social isolation.

Advertising our classes to all ages, we have members from ages 17 to their mid 60s. Our classes provide a really safe and supportive space for participants to connect with people with different experiences and backgrounds. One of our members identifies as a transgender woman, and she was so afraid to walk into her first class. She is now an avid class participant and attends two classes per week.

In addition to hosting regular classes, we host events in collaboration with local LGBT+ venues, boosting and supporting other local LGBT+ businesses and organisations in the process. We base our events in community centres, LGBT pubs and clubs to give people new and exiting experiences while learning a skill and enjoying a hobby.

The community group has a small committee of members and teachers who plan events together and each take individual roles in supporting our community group in growing and thriving. In the long term, we would like to get more dance teachers across Wales involved and create a network of social dance classes and events,
