Are there days when you look in the mirror & you see someone you’d describe as “not really me…”
don't despair, cos even though it's short, February is sweet, the month we celebrate LGBTQ+ history.
This is the 50th anniversary of the first Pride March that occurred in the UK,
Yes, our Kinky Boots have been made for walking & are still delivering the message to the world, that it’s Okay to be Gay.
The LGBTQ+ community has always been present in society, but by some people not acknowledged or seen,
thankfully attitudes are changing & progress has been made, but we still need to keep challenging behaviour and educating people, without confrontation, if you know what I mean.
Continue promoting love, equality and diversity & for those folk who are brave enough to be Out, we need to support their visibility,
to help combat Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia {& other forms of prejudice} & in the process, increase inclusivity.
Everyone has a story to tell, but may not have the right words yet,
help the LGBTQ+ community feel comfortable, listen & try to ensure the Pronouns, if used, are correct.
So, raise the Rainbow flag, a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride, designed in the 70’s by Gilbert Baker
or the Progress flag, a universal symbol for the LGBTQIA+ community, designed in 2018 by Daniel Quasar.
To celebrate & remember such a beautiful & resilient community,
their struggles, culture, contribution to society & of course, their rich history.
And thanks to Rodney Wilson, credited for creating LGBT+ History Month back in 1994,
helping to send an important message & raise awareness, a beautiful reminder to celebrate our differences, that's for sure.
