LGBT+ Sector Responds to the Government’s Draft ‘Guidance for Schools and Colleges: Gender Questioning Children’.

Following a long wait and several delays, the UK Government have today, 19th December, released their draft ‘Guidance for Schools and Colleges: Gender Questioning Children’.

We would like to reassure our communities that this is still only guidance. No changes will be implemented at this stage. The LGBT+ sector stand together in opposing the UK Government’s continual efforts to make the UK a hostile place for trans and non-binary young people.

We are conscious that this consultation, and the accompanying draft guidance is being released over the festive period, shortly before the parliamentary recess at a time when schools will be breaking up for the end of term and many of our member organisations are taking a well-deserved break after another challenging year for our communities.

However, we are firm in our resolve to challenge any proposed attacks on the rights of trans and non-binary young people and will be encouraging our members and communities to engage with the consultation, which will remain open until 12th March 2024.

We look forward to working with our members and communities in the new year to ensure that trans and non-binary voices are heard and included within this consultation.
