All About Trans works to support the media to create exciting content which authentically represents transgender experiences.
Since launching in 2011 we’ve worked with over 600 media professionals from soaps, dramas and news media. These relationships, collaborations and conversations create a dialogue that brings about better, more accurate and authentic representation – representation that answers people’s questions about trans people and experiences, helps to build understanding and tells brilliant stories.
Over the past decade, we’ve worked on popular dramas streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime; with three major soaps- Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and EastEnders; on the introduction and ongoing storylines of trans characters; on the award-winning BBC Two sitcom Boy Meets Girl starring Rebecca Root and with news media including the BBC, the Guardian, The Sun and the Mail on Sunday.
Other recent successes include working with Cosmopolitan on a feature about transgender joy, supporting the British Board of Film Classification on a resource exploring films about transgender matters that families can watch together, and working with major UK newspapers to develop editorial guidelines on covering transgender matters.
The work of All About Trans focuses on establishing connections between trans people and the media. Much of our work happens through “interactions”, carefully curated yet informal meet ups between trans people and professionals. These are always off the record, and are open, honest and constructive conversations which result in better understanding of the issues. These interactions often serve as the starting point for fruitful relationships between professionals and people with lived experience- to develop ideas, to explore potential storylines, offer script edits or to provide ongoing consultation.
