Camillea joined Consortium as our Racial Justice Engagement Officer in May 2021. Their role will be to provide work in order to understand the specific needs of, and increase the support available for, LGBT+ Groups working within communities impacted by racism and racial inequity and build the capacity and resilience of those Groups. As well as, working with the existing Membership this role will reach out to groups outside of Consortium’s LGBT+ membership, providing opportunities for engaging, networking and sharing of knowledge and resources across the LGBT+ Sector both in London and UK-wide.
Camillea is a diligent self-starter continuously inspired by work which serves a strong community purpose. They have a passion for uplifting & supporting marginalised communities - in particular Black and Brown people who are often underrepresented and from less advantage communities.
They have spent the last few years within the volunteering sector, working alongside the charity, ‘Imagine Mental Health Charity’- as a ‘Befriender’ to encourage confidence and independence for the client to become more involved within the community. They have also volunteered within the LGBT+ Third Sector – previously hosted ‘safe spaces’ and facilitated at many holistic events/ workshops (pre - Covid and online) for Black and Brown women and non-binary people, from the LGBT+ community to support both Mental Health and Well-being through monthly supported events. In addition, Camillea has been a panellist on several platforms discussing better ways to support marginalised Black and Brown people’s mental health and wellbeing from systematic and initialised racism.
Camillea is a proud and devoted parent of two children based in South London. In their spare time they enjoy tending to and nurturing their ever-growing plant collection of 27+ plants! Camillea also remains an avid journal writer, who enjoys connecting with nature, and when they can, go for walks with their family to the countryside, forest and by the sea.
