The Middle Eastern Women and Society organisation is recruiting new trustees!
We are a community-led voluntary organisation, set up ten years ago and committed to improve the lives of BAME women across London. We work with survivors of domestic violence, LBTQ+ members and migrant women with no recourse to public funds. We provide a range of wellbeing activities and advice on domestic violence and welfare for about 500 women each year.
In the last year we have doubled our income and have enlarged our team from five to nine staff members. We currently have many exiting projects and have expanded our services to women from all over London.
Our campaigns aim to raise awareness on polygamy, forced virginity testing, LBT+ rights and migration issues. Media is becoming increasingly interested in these issues, and our Director is regularly invited in various media outlets to raise public awareness and attract supporters. MEWSo is a member of key local networks too, where our team contribute with expertise on socio-cultural taboos affecting women.

We currently have an all-women Board of five Trustees who are responsible for setting up the overall strategic directions of MEWSo and support our Director and members of staff. We are looking to diversify our Board of Trustees by recruiting passionate women, who can share their expertise in:
- quality standards
- digital marketing
- project management
- business development
- community engagement
Board members are expected to contribute to the development/growth of MEWSo by:
- preparing for and attending quarterly board meetings (currently online)
- attending networking events (currently online)
- attending MEWSo’s classes and workshops to observe and provide recommendations
- advising on areas of expertise or be assigned a portfolio of tasks in accordance to their professional background
- approving MEWSo’s annual accounts
- liaising with funders and partners
- reviewing MEWSo’s policies and procedures
We particularly encourage applications from LBT+ women.
