We are seeing a rise in challenging conversations around trans people’s rights and lives, and Mermaids is dedicated to ensuring that trans young people and their families are centred in this conversation. It’s an important and exciting time to join Mermaids – an organisation with national and international acclaim. The Head of Policy is a new and pivotal role in the growing Mermaids team and our mission to make a better future for trans, non-binary and gender diverse young people and their families.

The Head of Policy will be responsible for leading our policy, advocacy, and research teams in the field of trans rights.

You’ll lead on our influencing work within parliament and stakeholders and encourage general society to support our mission to take action when it comes to equality for trans youth through stronger, clearer legislation and proactive procedures and policies.

The Head of Policy will also work with the Director of Legal and Policy to help shape certain aspects of strategy and operations.

We’re looking for somebody innovative, proactive and strong on processes, relationship management and research, who is open to developing and learning with the organisation. The Head of Policy should have an understanding and passion for intersectional values and be deeply committed to diversity and equality in society.
