LGBT HERO is seeking volunteers with a passion for mental health and community building to help run its online interventions.
Online Support Workers play a vital role in supporting LGBTQ+ people through LGBT HERO’s online forums and digital meetups such as Umbrella HangOuts and Bloom. By providing advice and information as well as a listening ear, volunteers are essential in the running of these spaces. If you are a good listener, community leader, or just want to help other queer people in need, then come and join the team!
Online Support Worker responsibilities:
- Provide advice and information to users on the LGBT HERO forums by responding to their posts and signposting to services they may require.
- Create engaging content on the LGBT HERO forums around LGBTQ+ life and issues affecting the community.
- Co-facilitate online groups including Umbrella Hangouts (for all LGBTQ+ people), Bloom (for the trans+ community, and HangOuts 50+ (for older LGBTQ+ people).
There is no minimum time commitment for the Online Support Worker roles but we would ask that volunteers commit a regular amount of time once per week. All volunteers would work with LGBT HERO’s Digital and Social Engagement Manager to come to an arrangement which works for them.
The LGBTQ+ community is under immense strain at the moment and we’re seeing more users than ever ask for support. Becoming an Online Support Worker is an easy, flexible way to make a real difference to the lives of thousands of queer people across the country.
