Employment Type: Employed

Breakout Youth is the leading LGBTQ+ youth services charity in Hampshire and the IOW.  We are committed to supporting LGBTQ+ young people, or young people who are questioning their sexual and/ or gender identity across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight (age 11-25).  We create safe, confidential spaces for young people to be their true authentic selves, meet other LGBTQ+ young people, receive accurate and appropriate support, information and advice.  Breakout Youth also offers one to one support, LGBTQ+ Awareness, community events and works to advocate on behalf of LGBTQ+ young people

Leading the development and delivery of services across the areas of Basingstoke and East Hants, this is an exciting opportunity to work with young people who identify as LGBTQ+ (or questioning)

Breakout Youth are seeking a skilled and passionate Lead Youth Worker to work with a small team of youth workers and volunteers to enable LGBTQ+ young people to access our services.  Working across Basingstoke and East Hants, Breakout Youth are seeking to raise awareness of our services and reach as many young people as possible.

The Lead Youth Worker will be responsible for planning and delivering youth groups (currently face to face in Basingstoke and a virtual Hampshire wide group), managing referrals and assessments, delivering one to one work and LGBTQ+ Awareness sessions.  The Lead Youth Worker will also supervise the Assistant Youth Worker and volunteers

The successful candidate will have experience of working with young people, with lived experience of the LGBTQ+ Community (either as a member of the community or an ally) who is passionate about delivering high quality services and experiences to young people.

This is a full time post (37 hours per week) and is partly funded by the National Lottery

We are committed to making a difference to the lives of the children and young people we work with, and as such you must show a willingness to demonstrate commitment to the values and behaviours which flow from the Breakout Youth ethos. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people is paramount.

Breakout Youth welcome applications from all sections of the community and are committed to ensuring diversity and inclusivity. We are proud that many of our staff and volunteers are using their own lived experience to support children and young people facing similar challenges.

We are committed to building a staff team that represents the young people we serve. We encourage applications from not only LGBTQ+ candidates, but those that are BIPOC, Disabled and Neurodiverse. We strive to ensure that equity, diversity, and inclusion are embedded into all aspects of our work and staff culture. If invited to interview, we welcome conversations about what we can do to foster an inclusive and accessible workplace for you – be it flexible working, access arrangements or a suitable place to pray.

As part of our team, you’ll receive a comprehensive induction and access to learning and development opportunities that are relevant to your role and to support your ongoing development.
