Are you passionate about inspiring, uplifting and empowering LGBTQ+ youth, and to combat the high-levels of self-harm and suicidal ideation in the community? Then this is the role for you.

​It Gets Better UK envisions a world where all LGBTQ+ youth are free to live equally and know their worthiness and power as individuals. We strive to tell the stories of LGBTQ+ people and to provide positive and reassuring messages to LGBTQ+ youth.

​​The It Gets Better Project was founded in 2010 in America. Since then, affiliated charities have been formed in 20 different countries, with It Gets Better UK having launched in October 2018.

​​We want to ensure that people are able to fully engage with our mission. Innovative thinking is at the heart of this and we are looking for dynamic individuals who will help shape the future and support the delivery of the organisation.

​​At this exciting time, as we are continuing to grow and scale our work, including recent grant income, we are looking to recruit a volunteer social media co-ordinator to help lead our social media activity.

​Where do you come in?

We are seeking candidates who bring a background in social media management. As social media is at the core of what we do, you’ll play a key role in helping to shape our charitable work.

​What are we looking for?

  • Experience of a mix of social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter and/or TikTok.
  • Experience of creating high quality, user focused, shareable social media content in different multimedia formats.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Reliable and professional demeanour.
  • A personal and friendly manner.
  • Flexibility to be called upon when needed.
  • An honest and trustworthy nature.
  • A good knowledge of the local LGBTQ+ community.

 

What difference will you make?

In the UK LGBTQ+ young people are twice as likely to contemplate suicide, and Black LGBTQ+ young people are three times more likely. LGBTQ+ young people are three times more likely to self-harm (31% have self-harmed, compared to 9% of non-LGBT+ young people), and are are twice as likely to have depression, anxiety and panic attacks as well as be lonely and worry about their mental health on a daily basis. Our charity aims to inspire, empower and uplift LGBTQ+ youth through telling the stories of members of the community with the message ‘It Gets Better’. As the social media coordinator you’ll be at the front of being the public face of the charity, making a direct impact on people’s lives.
