Galop, the UK’s LGBT+ anti-abuse charity, is seeking someone passionate about improving life for the LGBT+ community in the UK to be our new Head of Policy, Research, and Development.
Galop works directly with thousands of LGBT+ people who have experienced abuse and violence every year. We specialise in supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, hate crime, and other forms of abuse including honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and so-called conversion therapies. We are a service run by LGBT+ people, for LGBT+ people, and the needs of our community are at the centre of what we do.
We run two national support helplines: one for LGBT+ victims and survivors of domestic abuse, and the other for LGBT+ people who have experienced hate crime. We provide advocacy services, both in London and nationally, for LGBT+ victims who need longer-term support. We are person-centred, empowerment-based, and trauma-informed – meaning our focus is always on helping our clients decide what is best for them, and then supporting them through their journey.
We use what we learn through working on the frontlines with clients to work on national and local policy change, to improve outcomes for LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse and violence. We build evidence through key pieces of research, like our upcoming report into LGBT+ experiences of sexual violence. We push for legislative change, improved statutory guidance for victims, and better understanding of the needs of LGBT+ people around the country.
This is a pivotal moment in Galop’s journey. We have grown quickly over the last five years and your work will help to protect and support even more of our community. This is a brand new role, building on the work we have been doing for decades to improve the systemic response to LGBT+ victims of abuse. You will lead policy, research, training, and development work at national and local levels, ensuring a strategic approach to all activity which furthers Galop’s overall aims and mission. Your work will shine a light of the needs of our community, enable more LGBT+ people in the UK to seek support for abuse and violence, and pave the way to a safer future for our community.
Your role will report to the Director of Services/Deputy CEO, and sit alongside our frontline teams who directly support LGBT+ victims of abuse and violence. You will lead on our policy and research work, ensuring all strands work together to push forward for a safer future for LGBT+ people in the UK. You will oversee our training and development work, looking to improve responses to LGBT+ abuse across the country.

Galop’s offices are located in London. This role will be based in the office following the end of the current pandemic. The team is working remotely while the pandemic continues.
Full Time (35 hours per week).
Galop uses the NJC scales. This post is on NJC scale points 30-36 (£37,496 -£43,594 per year including London Weighting).
