Galop is the LGBT+ anti-violence charity, providing advice, support and advocacy to LGBT+ people who have experienced hate crime, domestic abuse and sexual violence. Galop also supports people who need help with the criminal justice system and is engaged on a strategic level to ensure issues affecting LGBT+ communities remain high on the agenda of commissioners, decision-makers and non-specialist service providers.

Galop has been championing the safety needs of LGBT+ communities for 35 years. Our aim is to prevent and respond to violence and abuse experienced by LGBT+ people in the following ways;

Providing advice, support and advocacy to LGBT+ people impacted by violence and abuse.
Improving the response of services through training, research, resource production and campaigning.
Working in partnership to increase the safety and well-being of LGBT+ people.

Overview of the Familial Abuse Research project

Galop intends to appoint a freelance researcher to undertake national research into LGBT+ people’s experiences of familial abuse. The researcher will report to Galop’s Policy, Research and Development and will oversee all aspects of the design and delivery of the project. We are seeking a freelance researcher to:

  • Project manage all aspects of Galop’s research focussing on LGBT+ people’s experiences of familial abuse
  • Develop a project plan and ensure that timeframes and deadlines are met
  • Ensure that all ethical implications of the research are highlighted and addressed
  • Contract and work with an external polling company to produce robust quantitative data for the project (this is subject to confirmation of research methods and objectives)
  • Review Galop’s service delivery data to identify themes and needs
  • Undertake qualitative interviews with service providers and key stakeholders
  • Undertake qualitative interviews with adult victim/survivors of familial abuse
  • Analysis of all quantitative and qualitative data
  • Write a research report and work with designers and the wider Galop team to design and publish the research

 

Appointment of Consultants
This appointment will take place through a private tender, issues to a selected number of individuals and organisations with relevant skills and experience.

Costs
Galop will award a contract of up to four and a half months to a maximum value of £13,500. This amount is inclusive of all time, expenses, relevant taxes, or other associated costs.

Timetable
A firm timetable can be agreed with Galop following appointment. All work must be completed by 31/3/2022 at the latest, and the project can run for up to four and a half months prior to that date.
