Introduction

Birmingham LGBT has been commissioned by Birmingham City Council’s Public Health department, funded by the Prevention and Promotion for Better Mental Health fund, to deliver interventions aimed at improving mental health outcomes for LGBTQ+ people in the city. These interventions include:

  1. Direct service delivery: to increase counselling hours to support people on the waiting list using sessional counsellors to support people with specialist LGBTQ+ affirmative person-centred counselling.
  2. Work with the Creating a Mentally Healthy City Partnership to develop strategic priorities and provide recommendations for the way forward following the intervention.
  3. Provide LGBTQ+ mental health awareness training to professionals working across the mental health system in both the statutory and third sector aimed at increasing frontline staff’s cultural competency.

 

Brief

  • To provide a full evaluation of the impact of both the LGBTQ+ mental health awareness training and the LGBTQ+ affirmative counselling.
  • Provide an evaluation report focusing on the impact of the intervention identifying what works and making key recommendations for next steps.

 

Accountability

The consultant will be accountable to the Director of Birmingham LGBT.

Skills required

  • Experience of working in a sensitive and culturally competent way, with particular focus around LGBTQ+ issues.
  • Research skills including evaluation of quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Experience of project evaluation and project management skills.
  • Experience of writing evaluation reports.

 

Timescale

The work commences in February 2022 and will need to be completed by the end of April 2022.

Contract value

Total amount available £10,000 inclusive of VAT.
