SUMMARY:LGBTQ+ Clothes Swap Leeds
DESCRIPTION:Clothes swaps are a great way to explore your style\, help others and save clothes going to landfill. \nWe’ve been putting these events on since July 2022 and it’s been heartwarming to see so many people exploring their style\, their gender\, or just revamping their wardrobe for something fresh. \nWe try to recycle clothes where possible but we really appreciate it if you could check that donations are clean and in good condition. \nYou’ll be able to drop clothes off from 3 but we won’t allow anyone in to swap from 3.30 to make sure we’ve set everything up. The bar will be open as normal during the event. \nIf you don’t have clothes to swap but you want to take clothes\, that’s fine! We’ll always take bags for life and coat hangers as donations. We’ll be taking donations to Trans Support Hub CIC which helps us keep these events free for those who can’t afford an entry fee. \nIf you’re not a member of Wharf Chambers already please make sure you sign up (it’s £2 per year) https://wharfchambers.org/membership/ \nThere will be a changing room and mirror. \nWe’ve already got plenty of donations from our previous events. Where possible\, we try to get more specialist trans related items like binders and chest enhancers. \nWe’ll be taking pictures to promote the work we do and future events\, please let us know on arrival if you don’t want us to take your picture. \nCan’t wait to see you all there!

SUMMARY:International Day against Homophobia\, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) 2024
DESCRIPTION:IDAHOBIT\, celebrated annually on 17 May\, is a global initiative that aims to raise awareness about discrimination\, violence\, and challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. \nDecided during extensive consultations with LGBTIQ organisations from across the world\, the theme will allow for advocacy and celebrations in many forms – be it from human rights defenders\, LGBTIQ civil society groups\, millions of people in our communities\, and our allies. \nThe world has just celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights — a document that is much more than a cornerstone of international law: it is a guide to navigate a deeply divided world\, a set of values that everyone can live by\, and ultimately a force for good. And yet\, we know that “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights” represents a promise not yet fulfilled — for LGBTIQ people across the world\, and for everyone experiencing the suffocating impact on their lives of diverse layers of inequalities. This year’s IDAHOBIT theme is a call for unity: only through solidarity for each other will we create a world without injustice\, where no one is left behind. \nHow are you planning to mark this year’s IDAHOBIT? Let us know at contact(at)may17.org or idahobit(at)ilga.org\, and don’t forget to register your events for them to be shown in our global map of initiatives! Do you need some input\, or could use some ideas to start planning? Check out our list of resources with valuable information and insights into the experiences and challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ people across different countries and regions around the world. \nTo facilitate participation at all levels in such a relevant day for our communities worldwide\, as of January 2023 ILGA World has taken a more active role around the IDAHOBIT\, by coordinating the Working Group and hosting its Secretariat.
