LGBT+ Futures: Equity Fund - Video Application Guidance

This guidance is designed to provide support with submitting a video application to the LGBT+ Futures: Equity Fund.

We recognise that applications forms can be a barrier to some organisations when applying for funding, so we have tried to develop a range of ways eligible organisations can submit their proposals. Therefore, we are open to receiving video applications if this feels more comfortable to you and your organisation.

All video applications will be treated in the same way as other formats. The relevant Community Panel will have access to your video, and also have access to a summary form of information which our Grants Team will capture based on the content of your video.

Alongside the online application form and the video application, you can also apply through our assisted programme. This is where a member of the Consortium team will do a phone call / video call with you (could be more than one person from the organisation if you would find this easier) to go through the questions and gather the required information. If this alternative application method would suit your organisation better, please get in touch with the team on: [email protected]

Preparing your video submission

We have some general guidelines for video applications to the fund:

  • Videos should not be longer than 5 minutes in total - they can be shorter, particularly for smaller requests.
  • Videos must be uploaded using the button at the bottom of this page. Alternatively you can share a link to your video from a file sharing platform (YouTube, Dropbox, WeTransfer etc).
  • Uploaded videos should be in MP4 format preferably and no larger than 40 MB.
  • We are interested in you and your organisation. This is your time to shine 😊
  • Speak slowly and avoid complex jargon.
  • Please don’t worry if you stumble over any words. This is natural and we won’t penalise organisations for this. We are simply interested in your organisation and what you want funding for.
Information you must include

For your application to be properly considered, your organisation must provide answers to the following questions (please note that if you want to apply for larger amounts there are additional answers to provide):

For all video applications:

  1. Introduction to your organisation (guidance of 1-2 minutes)
  • Please start your video by giving your LGBT+ organisation’s name and telling us briefly what your organisation does and where it operates.
  • Please also tell us which targeted category of funding your organisation is applying under from the following list:
    • D/deaf and/or Disabled LGBT+ People
    • LBT+ Women
    • LGBT+ People of Colour or LGBT+ People from Black, Asian or other Minoritised Ethnicities
    • Older LGBT+ People
    • Trans and Non-Binary People
  • Please tell us about how people from these communities run and operate your organisation, including how many people are on your management committee/trustee board/etc.
  • We want to make sure that your organisation fits the eligibility criteria of being led by and for those affected by one of the above areas of work.

⊕ For applications above £1,000

  • Please also tell us what legal structure your organisation operates under. The following list should help:
    • Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)
    • Co-operative Society
    • Community Benefit Society (CBS)
    • Community Interest Company (CIC)
    • Company limited by guarantee
    • Informal Group (for groups without a governing document)
    • Registered Charitable Company
    • Social Enterprise
    • Unincorporated Association (for groups that have a constitution)

  1. What you want funded (guidance of 2-3 minutes)
  • Please describe to us what you would like funded. This might be the core running costs of the organisation, it might be for some specific activity or events, or it might be for something else related to your organisation
  • This is your opportunity to really sell your organisation and what you do, or want to do, so be as clear as possible with this information.
  • Remember, we will be looking for information as to why we should fund your work.

⊕ For applications above £1,000

  • Please also briefly describe to us what you will spend the funding on.
  • Provide us with a broad overview of how you have broken down the requested amount.

⊕ For applications above £10,000

  • Please also give us an estimate of how many people will benefit from the funding you are applying for.

  1. Planned benefits of funding your organisation (guidance of 1 minute)
  • We are passionate about funding work that makes a difference to the lives of LGBT+ people and communities. In partnership with others, we have created a set of 5 areas of difference LGBT+ organisations work across. Please tell us which of the areas below best resonate with your work (only mention ones that are directly relevant to your organisation’s work or the work you want to fund):
    • Connecting people & communities
    • Creating safer communities
    • Improving health & wellbeing
    • Improving policymaking
    • Improved service provision

⊕ For applications over £10,000:

  • For each of the areas of planned benefit you mention in the previous list, please provide us with a short overview of how you will achieve this.
  • Please don’t worry about providing too much information. We are most interested in your ideas of how you will keep track of the difference you are making. For example, you might collect data and pull into a report about those you are working with and their journeys (anonymised where needed), or you might look to run a number of events with anticipated numbers attending which will help people feel more connected/safer/etc.)

  1. Declaration
  • Please give us verbal confirmation that the person/s presenting in the video application form are authorised to submit the application and confirm all information is accurate.
  • Please also give us your verbal consent to collect, record and process your personal details in line with Consortium’s Grant Funding Data Privacy Notice as found at: consortium.lgbt/grantprivacy
Submitting your video application
  • Once you are happy with your video, please ensure it is in one of the correct formats and submit using the button towards the bottom of this page.
  • You will also need to provide some very simple information on this form to complete the application before being able to submit.
  • This will include the contact details for up to two people within the organisation. These details will be used to follow up and let you know the outcome of your application.
